Basma lives in a house filled with violence and neglect because of her stepfather, Obaid. She lives in fear and loneliness due to abuse and insecurity. Maryam, Basma's teacher, sees subtle evidence of her suffering and intervenes to save her. Maryam bonds with Basma and fights to break the cycle of sorrow and violence. The child's life changes and she hopes for a better future.
